Panasonic and Disney Join Hands to Offer movies on SD Cards
July 24, 2009
Panasonic and Disney have reportedly entered into a partnership wherein Disney movies are to be distributed on Panasonic SD cards. Panasonic has agreed to supply microSD flash memory cards to the Walt Disney Co. This joint venture has apparently been designed to promote the viewing of movies on mobile phones and car navigation systems and other devices that come integrated with SD card reader.
However, this scheme is reported to begin in November in Japan, with Pirates of the Caribbean and the National Treasure series being the first films to be made available on SD cards. They have stated that if the concept is popular in Japan then there might be a similar release in Europe in 2010. The prices are however reported to be twice as much as that of DVDs.
