Samsung has agreed to pay Kodak an undisclosed sum of money towards a cross-licensing agreement between the two majors, as they work towards settling their digital camera patent dispute. Earlier this month, LG got into a deal with Kodak, with Kodak selling its Organic LED displays business as part of a cross-licensing agreement between these two majors. Kodak, through these deals, is progressively settling digital camera patent disputes with both Samsung and LG, and is also getting royalties too.
It may be recalled that Kodak, about a year back, had filed law suits against both Samsung and LG for infringement upon Kodak’s patents. So, instead of facing a full commission decision on this case, both Samsung and LG, separately, have more or less successfully settled this dispute with Kodak through an out of court settlement with a lot of compromise, money and material changing hands, of course, in a professional way, in the entire process of cross-licensing agreements towards jointly dropping the case.
