The Economist Magazine also had awarded him the Innovation Award earlier this month. Way back in 1975, as a young engineer, fresh from college, Steven Sasson developed a 0.01 megapixels resolution prototype digital camera. At that point of time, he was working as an engineer in the Eastman Kodak Company in Rochester.

In fact, Steve Sasson and his supervisor Gareth Lloyd received a patent for the digital camera in 1978. And Steve Sasson went on to work for about 35 years on the trot for the Eastman Kodak Company. He retired in February this year. The University of Rochester, amidst photo experts, dealers, collectors and historians was particular about recognising and praising Steve Sasson's herculean efforts in inventing the world's first digital camera which is now a multi billion dollar industry in digital imaging.
