The Canon PowerShot S5 IS 8MP Digital Camera is undoubtedly a leader in the range of Canon’s ultra-zoom compact cameras. Its 12x optical zoom lens is image stabilized and offers a focal range of 36-432mm and a fast aperture range of f/2.7-f/3.5. Silent auto-focusing is enabled in this digital imaging device with an ultrasonic Motor. An external flash hot shoe is a provision here with selected Canon EX Speedlites. This comes apart from the presentation of a standard built-in flash in the camera. A stout handgrip and mode wheel with some remarkable back-up features however, make the S5 IS styled like an entry level DSLR camera.
This digital camera comes with a versatile 2.5” vari-angle LCD screen and Canon’s DIGIC III processor (used in a range of DSLRs). Face Detection AF/AE/FE modes ensures best image output of the face and image quality is enhanced through ISO speeds of up to a maximum of 1600. You can choose from among 22 shooting modes including the manual mode. There is a 0cm super-macro mode for extreme close-ups. The Canon PowerShot S5 IS 12 x Optical Zoom Digital Camera competes directly with a lot of budgeted SLRs and cheaper high-end bridge cameras.
